Candace Marie West

February 20, 1952 — October 7, 2019

Candace “Candy” West, 67, died October 7th, 2019, in the comfort of her home after a courageous battle with metastasized breast cancer.  She was born February 20th, 1952, in Indianapolis, IN, and was a 1970 graduate of Northwest High School. Candy was proud to be a part of the Westlake Beach Club and has spent many years towards the planning of their reunions. She worked as a realtor for nearly 30 years with the FC Tucker Company. She was incredibly successful and received numerous awards for her accomplishments during her career.

She loved spending time in her gardens. She loved GNO, and connecting with old friends and making new ones. She loved the beach, strong coffee, good music, her signature orangish red lipstick, and Tabu’. She loved all of these things, but Candy’s greatest pride and joy came with the legacy she created of West Kids. She fought tirelessly with a brave face until the very end to spend every moment she could with her tribe. She was the strongest woman we have ever known and taught us all how to pull up our big girl panties and do what you have to do, for the love of family. She lived and fought to see her Bluegirl graduate and go off to Purdue, for Friday Night Lights with Ben to watch her Sweet Tea play varsity football, to have porch conversations with Liam, to watch Aerial grow into a wonderful mother to Vinny, to see her mini-Chris, Tristen, play his guitar like his dad and excel in all he does, to give Rowan all the obnoxiously fun toys and trinkets mom and dad won’t buy and to live long enough for him to remember her. She fought for more porch time and long conversations with Ben and Poppy. She fought to continue to be by Lee’s side. She fought because that is who she is and what she does. She fought to make sure her tribe was all okay and protected. She has taught her people well. We are strong and will continue her legacy of family and love. You are our Matriarch, our Mom, our Grandma, our Best Friend, and we promise to make you proud.

Candy joins her mother, Shirley King, her brothers, Jeff and Danny King, her sons, Chris and Drew West, and stepson, Jimmy Whiten. She is survived by her son and his wife, Ben and Stacey West, daughter-in-law, Shawnna West-Howard, her grandchildren, Aerial (Patrick), Bailey, Teagen, Tristen, Liam, and Rowan, her great-grandson, Vince, her husband, Lee Whiten, and his children and grandchildren, Scott, Renee, Melissa, Brianna, Alex, and Millie, and her father, Fred King.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 pm, Saturday, October 12 in the David A. Hall Mortuary, where friends and family will gather from 11 am until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, Candy would have loved to be honored through a donation in her name to the Tri-West Dollars for Scholars. Donations can be made through their website (please add the link for their website) or by mail. The family will be forming a scholarship in her name through the Dollars for Scholars organization to be given to a student entering a trade school or cosmetology. Going to cosmetology school was her girlhood dream. She would be giddy to assist a young person in achieving their dreams.
