Carolyn “Cookie” Rose Goldsmith passed away, surrounded by family, on July 14, 2017 in Avon, IN after a brief battle with cancer. She was born May 6, 1948 in Wainville, Webster Co., WV. She was the eight child, second daughter, of the late Eugene “Gene” and Arlice “Lucy” Rose.
Cookie attended Wainville grade school and graduated from Cowen High School with the class of 1966.
Cookies mindset for detail and organization was a great asset in her work history of bookkeeping and office management. An accomplished cook, she was never shy about experimenting with and improving recipes, creating delicious foods for friends, coworkers and family.
Upon completing Wilton cake decorating classes she made, decorated and delivered cakes for special occasions. Two very memorable cakes were made for our Parents 50th Anniversary 1983, and our Mothers 80th birthday which was delivered from Indiana to Erbacon during the blizzard of March 1993.
Seamstress extraordinaire, she drew on sewing instructions from her mother and Aunt Nora Morris Barnett to create clothing for herself and her family. Her passion for quilting produced exquisite quilts with minute detail in stitching and appliqué.
Cookie was an accomplished artesian and was often seen showing her amazing creations at many fairs and festivals.
She loved her family, a good joke and caring for others and her many animals. When introducing herself to friends who didn’t respond to her name Carolyn, she commented with a laugh and said "They call me Cookie”.
Cookie is survived by her husband M. Paul Goldsmith (m. February 29, 1968,) her siblings Arnold (Janette) Rose of Orville, OH, William (Charlotte) Rose of Cowen, WV, Catherine (James) Vance of French Creek, WV, Kay Rose Reisz of Elyria, OH, Francis Rose of Cowen, Edward (Barbara) Rose of Beaver, WV, Rick Rose of Erbacon and Patricia Rose of Avon, IN. and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were siblings Argel K. Rose, Emol F. Rose, Phillip Noel Rose, Eugene Roger Rose , 5 nephews, 1 niece and a host of aunts and uncles.
A memorial service was held July 23, 2PM at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Weston, WVA.
