Dale Edward Chalfant "Herb"

Dale Edward Chalfant “Herb”, 91, of Danville, Indiana, passed away on March 17, 2023, at Life’s Journey Hospice after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Dale was born on April 2, 1931, in Muncie, Indiana to the late Lemmie D. and Violet G. (Fehrenback) Chalfant. On July 9, 1950, in the Danville United Methodist Church, Dale wed Gayle Ayers; Gayle preceded her husband in death in 2017.

Dale was a graduate of Danville High School in the class of 1949. He went on to be a co-owner of Danville PLBG & HTG with his parents and brother, Frank, from 1953 to 1987. Dale retired in 2006 from the Hendricks County Highway Department. He was a member of the New Winchester Christian Church, enjoyed working in his yard and fishing when he wasn’t providing for his family.

Along with his wife of 67 years, Gayle (Ayers) Chalfant and his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his sister, Elsie McFarlin.

Survivors include children, Melanie Jones, Danena (Steve) Price, Ramona (Matthew) Griffith, Carey (Lana) Chalfant, and Kent Chalfant; grandchildren, Bart (Heather) Lofton, Brady (Suzan) Lofton, Charissa Price, Blake (Kristen) Price, Rolynn (Brian) Ramirez, Rocky (Emily) Eubank, Josh Chalfant, Korey Chalfant, Tate (Tabitha) Chalfant, and Kris Wright; 14 great grandchildren; sisters, Wilma (Billy) Baum and Alice Wilson; brothers, Lance (Jeri) Chalfant, Frank Chalfant, and David (Vicki) Chalfant; friend, Lois Duncan, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

To honor Dale’s final wishes, he will be cremated. A private graveside service at New Maysville Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dale’s memory to the American Cancer Society or the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Indiana.
