Debra D. Canal

d. March 22, 2020

Debra (Debbie) D. Clift Canal, 62, of Pittsboro, Indiana, passed away at her home Sunday, March 22, 2020, after a lengthy battle with cancer.  She was born August 22, 1957, the daughter of Frank and Barbara J. (Abbott) Clift of Terre Haute, Indiana.

Debbie was a faithful employee of Abstract and Title of Danville, Indiana with over 37 years of service as a property title researcher.  Prior to her career in title research, she was employed in the banking industry in Terre Haute, Indiana. and Crawfordsville, Indiana.

In her pastime, Debbie enjoyed crocheting blankets as gifts for her family and friends; she became quite good at crocheting and her memory will live on through her hobby.  But most importantly of all, she would spend countless hours watching her children, and subsequently, her grandchildren play a variety of competitive sports.  Debbie rarely missed watching her kids play in a sporting event, even when hours of travel to the venue was required.  She also enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends.

Debbie is survived by her brother, Ritchie Clift and her three step-sisters, Karrie (husband Tom) Bryant along with their children, Kaylah Collins and Karolann Risley; Sammi Coffey along with her children, Shawn and Shane Hapenny; and Cindi (husband Tony) Nichols along with their children, IndiAnn and Karissah. All her siblings live in Terre Haute, Indiana. She is also survived by her stepmother, Carolyn Potts Clift of Terre Haute, Indiana.

Debbie is survived by her former husband, Bruce Canal of Avon, and their two children, Anastasia Canal Alter (husband Joshua) of Whitestown, Indiana and Amanda Canal Hoole of Pittsboro, Indiana.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Anastasia’s three children: Lillian Marie, Jacob Joshua and Gavin Bruce; Amanda’s three children: Emma Nicole, Ethan Matthew and Nora Jo.

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak across the U.S., Debbie’s family will celebrate her life during a ceremony in the near future, and a memorial fund honoring her grandchildren has been established in her name.  Contributions may be made to the State Bank of Lizton, account number 6733581.  Flowers may be sent to 55 Kensington Court, Pittsboro, Ind. 46167

Arrangements are entrusted to the care of funeral director, Eric M.D. Bell of Pittsboro.  All are encouraged to keep the family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
