E. Jane Smith

Eleanor “Jane” Smith, 83 of Pittsboro, passed away peacefully July 1, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.

Jane was born July 6, 1935 in rural Brownsburg to Ralph and Cordis (Jones) Blanton. She met Harold Smith and they began their 70-year commitment to one another when they began going steady together in March of 1949. On January 16, 1952 they were married in her parent’s home, a loving union that would last the next 67 years until her passing.  Jane attended Pittsboro High School, and was a caring homemaker for her family her entire life.

She was a very active and well-loved member of the Pittsboro community. She was a member of the Pittsboro Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She greatly enjoyed working with flowers, sewing, crafts, and caring for her family.

Survivors include her loving husband of over 67 years, Harold Smith; daughters, Karen (Husband Roger) Love, Sharon Austin, Peggy Vela, Debbie (husband Tom) Noyes, and Janet Smith; sisters, Maxine Wawrzyniak and Betty Wood; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Blanton and Donald Blanton; twin infant siblings, Jerry and Janet, and son-in-law, Mike Austin.

Friends and family will gather from 2pm until 4pm, Sunday, July 7, in the David A. Hall Mortuary. Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Monday, July 8 in the funeral home, with Buddy Blanton, officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Sparks Cemetery in Pittsboro, Indiana.
