This is a celebration of life and the story of Gene A. Koskey of Pittsboro. Gene, 87, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2020. But, let’s go back to the beginning.
Gene was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Ernest and Pauline (Weaver) Koskey, the youngest of three children. He is preceded in passing by his sister, Jane (Koskey) Bracken and his brother, James Koskey.
Gene attended grade school in Indianapolis and then went on to Broad Ripple High School. He joined the United States Army in 1953 to serve in the Korean War. Gene was deployed to Japan in 1954 to serve in the Army Corp of Engineers as a heavy equipment operator/engineer. He was honorably discharged in 1955.
Gene returned home and soon met Jane Fessler at church. He worked for Texaco at the time they were dating, driving a semitruck hauling fuel. Gene and Jane were married on June 29, 1957 and just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this past summer. After they were married, they were blessed with their first child, Robert. Gene decided to go to airline school and worked in the airline industry for over 35 years, retiring in 1995.
Gene and Jane were blessed with four more children, David and Dennis (the twins), Jonathan, and Jennifer. Robert passed away in 2014 and is truly missed! Gene was very much a family man!
After retiring, he enjoyed camping, fishing, a little travel, and spending time with his family. He has seven grandchildren: Melanie and Julie, Lucas, Matthew and Mary, and Jared and Allison. He also has six great-grandchildren: Jacob, Brandon and Alyssa, Michael and Jeremiah, and Aaron.
Gene was a religious man with a lot of faith and enjoyed attending church when he could. However, he was mostly known for his jokes and kidding around. He always had a smile on his face and was willing to help anyone who needed it. There is so much more we could share about him.
Gene Koskey was full of so much love and he was loved so much! He will be very missed!
In lieu of flowers, Gene's family would greatly appreciate memorial contributions to Pittsboro United Methodist Church.
Funeral Services will be held at 1pm, Thursday, November 5, 2020 in the Pittsboro United Methodist Church, where friends and family will gather from 11 am until the time of the funeral. Following the funeral service, he will be laid to rest with Military Honors in the Sparks Cemetery. All are respectfully requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
