George Oliver Hieston, 88 of Jamestown, Indiana, peacefully passed away in his home on September 22, 2023. The following is an obituary written by George's loving family.
George was born on November 19, 1934, in Lizton, Indiana, to Robert Kelcie and Mary (Storm) Hieston. He graduated from Pittsboro High School and worked as a mechanic for Blank Chevrolet. He the went into business for himself, starting Hieston Phillips 66, on East Main Street in Brownsburg, Indiana, while also driving buses for Brownsburg Schools and working on them. He retired from Allison Transmission. He moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky later in life and worked at Leachman Buick, while raising horses and always growing a huge garden.
George is preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his grandson, Nicholas Hieston; his mother, Mary Katherine; his father, Robert Kelcie; his brother, Adrian; his sisters, Mary Sue Sutherland, Joann Newman, and Linda Proffitt.
He is survived by his sons, Robert and Eric Hieston and Stan Comer; his daughters, Carol Kryder, Kathy Paton, and Sharon Yokum; his sister, Sandra Caraway; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 am at Pittsboro Baptist Church on Saturday, October 21, 2023 with a time of fellowship following the celebration of life until 2:00 pm. The Pittsboro Baptist Church is located at 201 South Maple Street in Pittsboro, Indiana.
Arrangements are entrusted to Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
