Hazel L. Perry, 92 of Brownsburg, passed away on December 25, 2018 in Life’s Journey Hospice of Avon.
Hazel was born on March 25, 1926 to the late Paul and Mary (McGill) McGaughey in Russellville, Indiana. She attended Russellville Schools and in 1943, she married Kenneth (Dick) Perry, they were married for 44 years before his death in 1987. Together they farmed for many years in Russellville. She was a life-long member of the Russellville Community Church.
The family moved to Crawfordsville, Indiana in 1957 where Hazel worked at R.R. Donnelly’s. In the fall of 1958 they moved to Brownsburg where they lived and worked on a large farm. She also worked at W.H. Block Department store until 1965.
Hazel and Dick then purchased the Coral Inn Restaurant in Brownsburg. In 1971 Hazel took the job of managing the Blue and White Restaurant. In 1980, Hazel went to work for Marriott at the Indianapolis International Airport. She retired in 1990, but that didn’t last long. In 1991 she took a position at Cracker Barrel where she retired after 15 years.
Hazel loved to spend time with her family, the girls, grandchildren, and sitting on the porch with her grand dog, Maggie. She also a great cook and pie baker and loved to eat chocolate and peach candy. Hazel went almost every day to Flapjacks for lunch, where she made so many friends. A special thank you to Debra and her staff, they were so kind to Hazel.
Hazel was an avid basketball fan. She loved the Indiana Pacers, IU and Butler. Hazel and Dick had season tickets to the Pacers for many years. Hazel didn’t want to visit or talk when her teams were playing.
Survivors include her three daughters, Shirley Perry, of Indianapolis, Beverly Adams of Brownsburg and Pamela (husband Ray) Waddell Mutter of Brownsburg; grandchildren, Daniel (wife Jennifer) Adams of Brownsburg, and Holly (husband Klint) Waddell South of Brownsburg; and great-grandchildren, Madilynn and Wyatt Adams, and Sophia and Klinton South.
In addition to her parents and her husband Dick, she was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Karen and Dawn Adams; brother, Morris “Buddy” McGaughey; and sons-in-law, James Waddell and James Adams.
The family especially wishes to thank Bob and Laury Wallace and their angels at Life’s Journey Hospice of Avon.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts be directed to Life’s Journey Hospice of Avon, 10241 E. Co. Rd. 100 N. Indianapolis, IN.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Friday, December 28, 2018 in the David A. Hall Mortuary, of Pittsboro, IN, where friends and family will gather from 12 pm until the time of the service. Reverend Al Ray will be officiating. She will be laid to rest in Hebron Cemetery, in Russellville, IN.
