Helen (Gwin) Hartsock

Helen Gwin Hartsock, 84 of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully, February 21, 2019 in her home.

Helen was born April 7, 1934 in Indianapolis to Quentin and Faith (Bond) Gwin. She was a graduate of Shortridge High School and earned a degree in Business from the Indiana Business College. Helen worked for many years as the Auditor’s Assistant in the Marion County Auditor’s Office. She was active in the Republican Party of Marion County. In addition to her career and political activity she was a long-time member of the Brownsburg Church of Christ and Traders Point Church of Christ.

On October 9, 1954, Helen married John I. Hartsock in the West Washington Street Church of Christ. This was a loving and dedicated marriage that would endure for over 64 years until her passing.

Helen loved her family more than any earthly treasures. She leaves behind her loving husband, daughters, Faith (husband Mike) Toole, Hope (husband Fred) Thompson, and Joy (husband Tim) Watson; grandchildren, Joshua (wife Kristen) Wells, Susan (husband Joey) Parr, Colton Watson, Brooke (husband Stephen) Bradley, Annie (husband Jake) Llewelyn, Raini Watson (triplet); and great-grandchildren, Emma, Jaden and Jaxen (twins), Logan, Zella and Zoey (twins), and Vivian.

In addition to her parents, Quentin and Faith Gwin, Helen was preceded in death by her brother, Quentin Gwin, Jr. and her grandchildren, Tiffany and Melanie (triplets).

Helen was known for her warm infectious smile, and gentle nature. She loved being with her family and friends, entertaining in her home, playing cards, making greeting cards, singing hymns and laughing daily. Helen led by example of community involvement with her family. She was actively involved in many projects during her lifetime starting in her school years; Sorority,  PTA President with Pike Township Schools, Girl Scouts Leader, the Marion County Republican Party starting as a Precinct chairman in Pike Township, and ending as Ward Chairman in Wayne Township.

Friends and family will gather from 4pm until 7pm, Monday, February 25 in the David A. Hall Mortuary, 220 N. Maple Street, Pittsboro, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held at 1pm, Tuesday, February 26, in the Mortuary.  She will be laid to rest privately at Marion National Cemetery in Marion, Indiana.

While flowers are appreciated, the family requests Memorial Gifts be directed to the Hendricks County Historical Museum, 170 S. Washington Street, Danville, Indiana, 46122. Helen was a model of the Museum’s vintage hat collection, granddaughter Raini is a docent, daughter Joy volunteers and her daughter Faith, was a contestant for Dancing with the Hendricks County Stars in 2017.
