Irvin Louis Maymon of Pittsboro, Indiana peacefully passed away on March 14, 2021 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Irvin and twin sister, Irma Louise, were born in Byrneville, Indiana on April 6, 1932 to parents, Virgil Maymon and Emma Myrtle Maymon. He graduated from New Salsibury High School in 1950. Growing up he played basketball, worked on the family farm and was very active in church. When Irvin was young, he acquired the nickname “Jake” and it stuck with him.
Jake attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, where he earned his Associates in Arts. He played basketball and ran track for Graceland College and was part of the 1953 Iowa State Basketball Championship Team. In April, 1958 Jake married Rosaline Fulks. They welcomed 3 children, Robin, Scott and Amy into their family.
Jake went on to earn his Specialist in Education from Indiana University in 1969 and continued his career in Education until his retirement in 1994. He was passionate about helping his students develop the skills needed to succeed, personally and professionally.
In retirement Jake enjoyed, volunteer work with Red Cross, CICOA and his church. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed sports, crossword puzzles, reading, camping and being outside. He was a big IU and Colts fan.
He is survived by his wife of 62+ years, and the love of his life Rosaline Maymon; daughters, Robin Norwood (husband Terry), Amy Sobiski (husband Kevin), and son, Scott (Wife Tracy); 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Friends and family will gather at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home in Pittsboro, Indiana on Friday, March 19, 2021 from 11 am until the time of the Celebration of Life Service at 1 pm. For those who cannot attend, the service will be available to view on Facebook Live on the Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home Facebook Page also beginning at 1 pm. In accordance with the state-wide mandate, all in attendance are kindly asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Red Cross of Greater Indianapolis or CICOA Aging and In-Home Solutions.
