James M Hall

June 27, 1945 — August 31, 2023

Lizton, Indiana

James M. Hall, 78 of Lizton, IN passed away peacefully in his home, August 31, 2023.

On June 27, 1945, the world became a brighter place.  James “Jim” Michael Hall was born to John Douglas and Julia ”Judy” Carol (Brown) Hall in Beech Grove, IN.  Jim passed peacefully on August 31, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three older brothers, Richard John, William, and John Douglas Hall II. He left behind his loving wife of 50 years, Esther Jo Gifford Hall. They were 16 days shy of their 51st wedding anniversary. They have 3 children – Jamie (Phillip) Irwin, Brian (Latisha) Hall, and Toby (Jennifer) Hall. There are 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  He loved his family with his whole heart, and that love was abundantly returned.

Jim graduated from Lizton High School in 1963. While he was there, he ran cross country, played basketball and baseball. Once he graduated, he joined the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era and was stationed in Topeka, Kansas. He was able to take all the skills he learned in his job in the Air Force about electricity to become employed by Indiana Bell.  Indiana Bell changed names several times during his tenure and after 30 years, Jim retired from SBC Global.  He then went to work for Time Warner Telecom for 15 years before retiring again. Jim loved what he did and he did it well. Jim did his job so well that he was chosen to write instructional manuals and teach new trainees for both companies. In addition to working in telecommunications, Jim was on the Lizton Union Township Volunteer Fire Department. He volunteered for 25 years to keep his community safe.  For a short time during the 25 years, he served as Assistant Chief. He still loved to play with trucks and was an avid collector of pedal cards, model trains and old toys.

There will be a small celebration of life at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Bear Hugs Giving Foundation.

Eric MD Bell Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Pittsboro is honored to care for the family during this difficult time.
