James Pickens

James Coleman Pickens, 78, of Bedford, Indiana, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2023.  James (Jim) was born in Bedford, Indiana on September 22, 1944 to Loren and Jesslyn (Owens) Pickens.  Jim was a wonderful husband, father, and loving grandfather affectionately referred to as “Grandada” by his three granddaughters.  He received his undergraduate degree in education from Indiana State University and followed with his masters at Indiana University Bloomington. He began his professional career as a junior high/high school teacher in Florida before returning to home to Indiana, where he worked in real estate for 20+ years.  He was an avid Indiana Hoosiers basketball fan and a moderate coin collecting enthusiast.  Most importantly, Jim was an engaging individual and once you found a spot in his circle, you had found a friend for life.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Kathy, son Brendan (Melissa), and granddaughters Hadley, Maryn, and Laynie.

The family will be scheduling a celebration of life for Jimprivately at a later date.
