Jerry “JR” Root, 59 of Bainbridge, passed away December 8, in his home, with his loving family by his side.
Friends and family will gather at David A. Hall Mortuary in Pittsboro from 4 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 for visitation. The funeral will take place at 11 am the following day in the funeral home. Burial will be at White Lick Presbyterian Cemetery in Brownsburg.
JR was born on November 21, 1960 in Lebanon, Indiana to Carl Root and Sharon Ray. He graduated from Brownsburg high school in 1980. He worked most of his life as a truck driver, most recently driving for Dotlich Contractors. Before his trucking days, he spent several years traveling the country building log homes. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
He married Donna Root (Brock) on February 14th 1982. They had 3 children, who were his pride and joy. His children remember him as their friend, protector, and a true example of strength and kindness.
He met the love of his life, Dana Root (Land), while working together driving trucks, and they were married on Sept 1, 2008. This union also came with 3 grown step-daughters. He could have taken a limited role in their lives, but that’s not the man he was. Instead, he took them under his wings, and loved them as if they were his own.
JR and Dana were blessed with 17 grandchildren. If not at work, you could always find him with the grandkids, doing pretty much whatever they wanted him to do. The grandkids will always remember times spent at Papa and Nanny’s pond. They will cherish the special bond he had with each one of them, and that he was always a soft place to fall as well as the strength they needed in hard times. They will remember his presence at all their events and his thundering voice cheering them on.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Dana, children Gerald Root Jr.(Meghan), Amanda Quakenbush (Ben), Brittany Kennicott, Andreah Caldwell (Dave), Abbie Morgan (Matt), Alli Ritter (Kyle); 17 grandchildren: Hayley, Corbin, Matt, Cole, Addy, Creek, Taylor, Lauren, Olivia, Cody, Riggs, Kali, Clay, Charlie, Joey, Brooks, and Bella; Sister, Cheri Stevenson (Joe), and his personal protector (as if he needed one), his dog, Maggie. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, April Frazee (Root).
Memorial Donations can be made to the Hendricks County Community Foundation.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of funeral director, Eric MD Bell of Pittsboro. All are encouraged to keep Jerry’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
