John R. Jones

September 17, 1951 — September 19, 2022

Pittsboro, Indiana

John Jones, 71 of Pittsboro, Indiana, peacefully passed away on September 19, 2022.  The following is a life story written by his loving family.

John R. Jones was born to Charles and Joanne (Patterson) Jones on September 17, 1951, in Marion County, Indiana.  John enjoyed hunting and fishing, including a few trips to Canada.  He also liked to travel when he was able. John was an avid golfer until recent years.  Very seldom did he miss any Purdue sporting event whether it was on television or in person.  John also liked watching the Indianapolis Colts play - unless he could catch an episode of NCIS!  He was the master of playing solitaire and making his family smile with his jokes whenever he was able. John also had a fun time scratching lottery tickets while drinking his Red Bull, Cherry Coke, or Canada Dry while snacking on treats! John worked several jobs over the years including being an electrician.  He worked at Rush Truck Center and retired from there a few years back so he could play more golf.  John had many accomplishments in his life but two of the most important ones were his family, whom he loved very much, and his sobriety, which was almost 30 years. He lived a challenging life at times, but he always took things in stride even when they were hard.

John suffered from a cardiac arrest on Monday, September 19, 2022, and he is survived by his daughters, Kaywana Vaughn, Kristi (Andrew) Lippard, and Amanda Lawson; his grandchildren, Dakota (Jasmine)Vaughn, Allyson (Austin) Lawrence, Carly (Nic Gilliam) Booth, Matthew Booth, Memphis Lippard, Amber ( Robbie) Garrett, Adam Lippard, Khloi Spaulding, and Londyn Jobe; and his great-grandcihldren, Amelia Vaughn, Roland Vaughn, Layla Gilliam, Cadman Gilliam and Lorelai Gilliam; Aunt Alvina “Sparky” Patterson; his sisters, Donna Rudy and Roberta Jones; as well as his cousins and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Joanne, his brother, Charles Jones Jr., his sister, Reita Roudebush; his uncles, Jack Patterson and Lowell Patterson; his granddaughter Brittany Booth; and his loving companion, Sharon Lawson.
