John David Sandlin Jr., 60, of Pittsboro, IN passed away unexpectedly, August 28, 2024 in his home. The following is a life story written by his loving family.
On Wednesday, August 28th we lost our beloved husband, father, brother, son and friend, John David Sandlin, Jr. John was born in Danville, Indiana, September 18th 1963 to John David Sr. and Etta (Gregory) Sandlin. John has left behind his wife of 27 years, Sybil Sandlin (Shipman); three daughters, Emily (32), Olivia (25), and Grace (21); his son ,Johnny (15); and four grandchildren, Riley, David, Madden, and Levi. He also leaves behind his father, John David Sandlin Sr.; sisters, Loreena (Pat, late), Nellie (David), Judy (Larry), and Rose; brothers, Oscar (Linda), Hardy (Susan), Tim (Kristy) and Bill (Jan); along with many nieces and nephews. Preceding John in death is his mother, Etta Sandlin.
John graduated from Northwest High School in 1981. Following graduation, John went on to work becoming a member of the Teamsters Union. As a 40-year member of Teamsters, John drove for Sysco Foods and the United Parcel Service. John had many hobbies which he loved: golfing, fishing, and hunting. He was a self-taught boat mechanic and in his spare time repaired and reimagined hundreds of boats of all kinds. He made friends all over the country buying, selling, and repairing boats. But John’s most cherished times were spent with his family. Whether he was coaching, cheering-on his children and grandchildren from the sidelines of their favorite sport or activity, spending a day on the lake, at the golf course, or just watching movies at home, John’s greatest love and commitment was taking care of his family.
Though John was reserved and quiet, he also had a wonderful sense of humor which often ended up with tricks, jokes, and sometimes even some hysterical raps to embarrass his children. John didn’t know a stranger, everywhere he went he was recognized by someone! He had a heart of gold and would go out of his way to help others, whether it was mowing a lawn, snowplowing a drive, or repairing a motor. John was a loyal friend, protector, provider and loving soul.
Most importantly John is a child of GOD. There is comfort in knowing he left this earth a believer and follower of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Knowing this, we know the Lord has prepared a place for John and welcomed him home. There is peace in knowing John is now rejoicing with the Lord and his sweet mother, Etta!
