John “Jack” D. Hall, also known as Mr. Lizton, 75 of Lizton, Indiana, peacefully passed away with his family by his side on March 4, 2020. Jack was born on April 8, 1944 in Beech Grove, Indiana to John and Julia (Brown) Hall. He graduated from Lizton High School in 1962 and went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree from Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana. Jack led a full and interesting life. He was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force and became Fire Chief for 3 years and then Assistant Fire Chief for many years for the Lizton Union Township Fire Department, where he was instrumental in getting Lizton its very first fire hydrant (still in use today). He was a Civil Engineer for the Indiana Department of National Resources for 40 years, was the town building inspector for Lizton, and was a member of Lizton Christian Church for 67 years. Aside from being known as Mr. Lizton, he was also known as the resident town historian. He was a founding member of the Lizton Community Association (the LCA) and helped begin LCA Days, a major event people would travel far and wide to attend for its pedal tractor pulls, hot air balloons, mud volleyball, classic car show, and 5k run. Jack loved his community dearly and was responsible for the town motto: “Lizton, the only one in the world”. There was also only one of him in the world.
Along with his parents, Jack is preceded in death by his brothers, John Richard Hall and William Hall.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Hall; his brother, Jim Michael (Jo) Hall; his sons, Douglas and John R. (Sydney, expecting a baby boy named John Colt in August) Hall; his step-son, Allen Timbrook; his step-daughter, Carrie (Ryan) Albright; his two grandchildren, Karter and Korrie; and many cousins.
Visitation will be Monday, March 9, 2020 from 4 pm to 8 pm, where friends and family will gather at the funeral home to celebrate this extraordinary life. The funeral service will be held at Lizton Christian Church Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 11 am, with the burial to follow at Lizton K of P Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would very much appreciate memorial contributions be made to the Lizton Christian Church or the Lizton Union Township Fire Department.
Arrangements have been entrusted to funeral director, Eric M.D. Bell of Pittsboro. All are encouraged to share thoughts and prayers with the family during this difficult time on Jack’s memorial page found at www.davidahallmortuary.com
