Loreto Enriquez Reynon

December 10, 1941 — March 9, 2019

Loreto E. Reynon, 77, of Fishers, Indiana went home to the Lord March 9 following a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer, passing peacefully into eternal life in the company of his family, including his loving wife of 50 years, Mercedes.

Loreto was born in Santa Catalina, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, in the midst of a Japanese air raid on Dec. 10, 1941. Explosions could be heard nearby as he was born under a tree.

He attended Divine Word College in Vigan and continued his education at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, where he received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He met and fell in love with Mercedes Chanchico in 1964 and married her four years later in Gerona, Tarlac. In 1971, he received a work visa to the United States. Making the trip alone to the new country, Loreto found part-time work in Chicago’s steel mills. with Mercedes and their two sons, Roumel and Arnel, waiting in the Philippines, Loreto invested his last $450 with a placement agency to find a job in his field. That decision led to a position as a draftsman at Economy Mechanical Industries, where he eventually became lead engineer.

With his career established, Loreto sent for his family to join him in the Windy City. He was proud that his first assignment was to draft the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system diagrams for what at the time would be the world’s tallest building, the Sears Tower. Loreto took pride in his work and performed it with precision and care. But his lasting legacy lies in the family he loved unconditionally. After retiring in 2008, Reynon traveled the globe, played golf as a member of the Phil-Am Eagle Golf Club, spoiled his grandchildren and dated his wife. He moved from his home in Arlington Heights., Illinois, to Fishers, Indiana, in 2013 to be closer to his five grandchildren.

Loreto is preceded in death by his father, Pedro, and mother, Emiliana; his childhood caretakers, aunt Isabel Enriquez and cousin Nenette Enriquez; sisters Teresita, Editha and Minda; and brothers Benjamin and Nestor. He is survived by his wife Mercedes; sons Roumel (Jilaine) and Arnel (Cheryl); grandchildren Maya, Evan, Erin, Natalie and special buddy, Julia; a host of relatives in both the states and Philippines, including sisters Herminia, Cita and Lilibeth.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30pm, Thursday, March 14, 2019 in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, where friends and family gather from 12:30 pm until the time of the Mass. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
