Loris William "Bill" Porter

June 22, 1921 — July 23, 2016

Bill Porter (1921-2016) World War II Veteran

Loris William (Bill) Porter, age 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 23, 2016 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on June 22, 1921 to Charles O. and Katie (Day) Porter.

A Montclair, Indiana native, he served as a U.S. Army First Sergeant during the World War II and the Korean Conflict, earning three Bronze Star Medals. Upon returning from military service, Bills many life accomplishments include a 50-year career as a professional auctioneer and membership of the Free & Accepted Masons, serving Pittsboro FM&A Lodge 620, as well as Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6128. Additionally, his life involvements included entrepreneurship of various businesses and real estate investments.

Bill dubbed himself just a poor country boy, but became truly a self-made, family man. He was known by all as a casual man of great integrity, never requiring more than a handshake on even the most of complex agreements. Not afraid of an honest days work, there was never a doubt that if Bill Porter said it would happen, it was going to happen.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Martha Louise (Cox); sons, Charlie and Walt; daughters, Billie Jo (Ray) Weatherford and Terry; grandsons, Jeffery Weatherford and Jason (Ryann) Weatherford; and sister Doris Harlan. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as brothers Harold and Walter.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at David Hall Mortuary, 220 N. Maple St., Pittsboro; burial with military honors will follow at Bethesda Cemetery in Brownsburg. The family will greet friends at David Hall Mortuary from 4:30-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, with Masonic Service beginning at 7:00 p.m.
