Marcia Ann Hammons

October 31, 1940 — April 2, 2019

Marcia Ann Hammons, 78 of Pittsboro passed away, April 2, 2019 of a long recurring illness.

She was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana on October 31, 1940 to Edwin and Edith (Crumm) Linn in Crawfordsville, IN.  She was married April 21, 1956 to James Hammons of Brownsburg. Marcia was preceded in death by her parents.

Her survivors include husband James, brother Neil (wife Juanita) Linn of Brownsburg, and 5 children.  They are Terry Hammons of Danville, Patricia Thompson of Danville, Sheila Hammons of Pittsboro, Craig Hammons of Brownsburg and Scott (wife Heather) of Pittsboro.

Marcia is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Todd (wife Kelly) Owen, Jeremiah Thompson (wife Jami), Nate Hammons (wife Jamie), Todd Hammons, Zachary Thompson, Jake McGee, Tara (husband Doug) Schwamburger, Casee Chastain, Nikki Chastain, Zane McCandless and Carter Hammons.

Marcia also has 12 great-grandchildren, and could often be found reading books to them.

In her younger days, Marcia was an avid bowler and was very good at it.  She played the piano for the church and directed the choir.  Marcia also coached girls’ softball.  Family vacations were always the norm in the summers when the kids were younger.  She and Jim followed all of their kids and grandkids actives and kept quite busy.  She was a strong figure in the community and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

There will be a very informal open house on Friday April 12, 2019 from 6pm to 8pm at the American Legion Building in Pittsboro’s Scamahorn Park.  We will have a very short memorial service at the end.
