Marion A. Miller

December 11, 1920 — October 20, 2019

Marion Andlauer Miller passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on October 20, 2019. He was born in Topeka, KS, in 1920, the last of four children of Henry and Josephine Andlauer Miller. He was schooled in Topeka at Seabrook Grade School and Washburn Rural High School and won a Union Pacific Scholarship to college. In 1942, he graduated with Honors from Kansas State College with a degree in Engineering. Through the ROTC program, he achieved a commission as second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps Reserve. That summer, he married Lois Sherman, his grade school sweetheart. They celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary in May of 2019. She survives him along with daughters Jo Ann Van Voorhies and Virginia Sheikh (Mehrdad), and son Steven Miller (Linda). A son James and son-in-law Bill Van Voorhies preceded him in death.

He is also survived by six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.
During WWII, he was assigned to Wright Field, Dayton, OH, where he was engaged in the development of assault gliders. He returned to Topeka in 1947 where he had several jobs before joining the General Motors Aircraft Program in Kansas City in 1953. In 1954, he was sent to the Allison Division in Indianapolis. He was transferred in 1961 to the Guide Division in Anderson where he retired in 1985 as Director of Production Engineering. Following his retirement, he became involved with family projects and volunteer work. Through the years he and Lois have enjoyed their family and friends.


Funeral services will be at 1PM at the Speedway United Methodist Church on October 24, 2019, with visitation prior to the service from 11AM-1PM. Burial will be in Floral Park Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Speedway United Methodist Church
