Martha Pendergrast, 88 of Lizton, Indiana, passed away on December 20, 2020 in her home. She was born in Springfield, Illinois on December 6, 1932 to John and Willlana (Lord) Asbury. Marti worked actively on the dairy farm alongside her husband, Gene, for 31 years, and this is where they raised their five beloved children in Brownsburg, Indiana. Marti was known for many years as the “Danner’s Lady” because she was so loving and personable to all the customers. She eventually retired from K-Mart after 16 years working in the paint department. She most recently attended New Life Christian Church in Lizton.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Howard Pendergrast and her son, Jeffery Lee Pendergrast. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia (husband Doug) Smith, Angela (husband Joe) Hays, Andrea (husband Cameron) Sullivan, and Lana (husband Gary) Baldauf; her 12 grandchildren, and her 24 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, John Asbury and her sister, Susan Parker.
Friends and family will gather at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home from 12 pm until the time of the service at 2 pm, on what would have been Marti’s 70th wedding anniversary, December 27, 2020. Marti will be laid to rest with a private family ceremony in K of P Cemetery in Lizton, Indiana. In accordance with the statewide mandate, we kindly ask that all in attendance practice social distancing and wear a mask. For those who cannot attend, the service will be on Facebook Live on the Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home Facebook Page. Please like the page and you will be alerted to when the video starts (at 2 pm along with the service). Once the service is recorded, it will be available there to stream at any time.
In lieu of flowers, Marti's family would appreciate memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
