Norris Dee Smith

Norris Dee Smith, 92, of Pittsboro, Indiana, entered Eternal Glory into Jesus’ arms on September 24th, 2023.

Norris, fondly known as Smitty, was born to Harry and Opal Smith on October 3rd, 1930, in Boone County, Indiana. After graduating from Lizton High School in 1948, Norris married his childhood sweetheart, Iramae (Ray) Smith from North Salem on October 2nd, 1949. He had an adventurous spirit from his childhood that lasted his entire life. He loved riding horses and motorcycles, antique car touring with friends, and racing anything that would go fast. During his life, he farmed with his father and uncle, owned a service station, and enjoyed a 40-year career with Glenroy Construction.

He was a part of building Riley Children’s Hospital and restoring the Indiana State House. During his retirement, he and Iramae enjoyed many happy times between Indiana and Florida. They were happily married for 63 years until Iramae’s passing in October of 2012. Norris remarried Mary Meredith of Pittsboro in February of 2014. He felt tremendously blessed that the last nine years of his life were spent with Mary gardening, traveling, and enjoying the two families spending time together. It brought him great joy in his later years. Norris is survived by his three daughters, seven grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Milburn and Melvin, and great-grandchild, Noah. On Mary’s side of the family, he is survived by one son-in-law, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by one step-daughter, Karen Meredith-Love.

Viewing 11am-1pm on September 29th at Pittsboro Baptist Church with funeral services beginning at 1pm. Interment following at the Lizton K of P Cemetery.
