Patricia P. (Parrish) Marmion, 86, died on December 17th. A native of Indianapolis, she was born on July 4, 1931, the daughter of Frank B. and Mary E. “Babe” (Brossman) Parrish. She was a graduate of Howe High School, a graduate of Butler University in the School of Communications, a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and a member of the Butler Marching Band under the direction of Chuck Henzie. She worked for Indianapolis orthopedic surgeon, Merrill Ritter, MD, for several years as a patient educator and assisted in clinical research and writing/editing various articles for medical journals. Over the years, she generously donated her time in a multitude of ways, serving as press chief for one of the sports venues at the 1987 Pan American Games, President of the Ballet Wing of the Indianapolis Ballet Theater (IBT), member of IBT’s Board of Directors, member of IBT’s Auxiliary Board as liaison to the International Ballet Council, and member of IBT’s marketing committee to develop outreach programs.
Additionally, she was on the Advisory Board of OASIS, chairman of the OASIS development committee, member of Butler University’s Ovid Butler Society (OBS) Executive Committee, and, in 1998, was awarded Butler’s Catherine Merrill Graydon Service Award. As a member of Christ the King Catholic Church since 1959, she was very active in the Drama Club as performer, director, and writer, and sang with the church choir for more than 30 years. She was an avid needle pointer and was part of a group of women who stitched together regularly for many years.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brother, Frank B. Parrish, Jr., and her husband E. Michael Marmion. Survivors include her son, Michael P. Marmion of Noblesville (Maria), daughter, Melinda de Marmion of Colorado, daughter, Abigail A. Marmion of Indianapolis, grandchildren, Jessica, Clay and Rylee Marmion, two great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law (Maureen Bartolucci and Patricia Parrish Davis) as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives who live out of state.
The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to Amanda Ramsey and the caregiver staff at Kesslerwood Place.
Visitation will take place on December 27th from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Harry W. Moore Funeral Care Chapel, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis. A funeral service and burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on December 28th at Our Lady of Peace Chapel and Cemetery, 9001 Haverstick Road, Indianapolis.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ovid Butler Society at Butler University in Indianapolis.
