Peter G. Bloyd

d. December 19, 2021

Brownsburg, Indiana

The following is a tribute written by Peter’s family, as well as information regarding his services.

On Sunday, December 19, 2021, the Bloyd family lost a devoted husband, father and friend.

Born to Henry and Alice Bloyd in Lancashire, England on August 25, 1951, Peter “Pete” Gene Bloyd spent his childhood moving and traveling often with his family. The son of a military man, Pete saw much of the world as a child and teen.

As a teenager, he moved to Brownsburg and graduated from Brownsburg High School in 1969.

“The first hippie in Brownsburg” became known as “Panhead Pete,” after his 1951 Harley Davidson Panhead motorcycle, a possession so prized that it was kept in a bedroom inside his Brownsburg home until the room was transitioned into a baby’s room. Pete took this motorcycle to Sturgis in 1984 with Dave Honey, his best friend. It wasn’t until years later that they discovered they had consecutive license plate numbers on their motorcycles.

In 1986, Pete married Brenda Kay Williams at Christ Lutheran Church in Brownsburg. They formed an inseparable bond that lasted for more than 35 years.

As a skilled carpenter, Pete mastered his woodworking craft and was known throughout Indiana for taking on challenging jobs. Peers described him as a “woodworking genius.” When he wasn’t building motorcycles, fixing up old cars or playing Yahtzee with his family, Pete could be found with his many friends at his local watering hole with a Budweiser in hand, sharing jokes, stories and thoughts on life. You were always in for a treat when Pete started a sentence with “have you heard the one about…”

In the ‘90s, Pete briefly left the woodworking business to work at a steel mill in Pittsboro. His time there most notably provided the clothing he used to win a Halloween costume contest as Homer Simpson.

Birthday parties held for Pete often turned into day-long community events, with hundreds of people stopping by Pete and Brenda’s house for BBQ, bonfires, fireworks and live blues bands. Pete was a lover of animals and visitors were greeted by his pack of English Mastiffs. Five adult Mastiffs roamed the property.

Pete spoke with a stern voice, but was a secret softy who loved deeply and created life-long bonds with those around him.

Pete was especially proud to see Cory, his first born son, become the first member of the family to graduate from university. He lived to see all three of his children graduate college.

Pete is survived by his wife Brenda Bloyd; children Cory Bloyd, Kyle Bloyd and Kayli Bloyd; brother Paul John Bloyd and his wife Michelle; four nieces and nephews; and four grandnieces. Pete is preceded by his mother Alice Bloyd and father Henry Bloyd.

A visitation and memorial service will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home at 220 N. Maple St. in Pittsboro, Indiana.

A celebration of life will be held at the Clermont Lions Club on Jan. 7 from noon to 6 p.m.

Donations in his name can be made to the Hendricks County Humane Society.
