Robert L. Elliott, Jr., 85 of Pittsboro, IN, was born into eternal life December 3, 2018.
Robert was born on March 18, 1933 in Evansville, Indiana to Robert L. and Florence G. (Yellig) Elliott, Sr. He was a graduate of Wreitz Memorial High School in Evansville, Indiana. He then went to work for the Southern Railway as a fireman on steam locomotives. Then he served his country in the United States Navy as an Aviation Structural Mechanic during and after the Korean War from, 1952-1956, where he was assigned to the Hospital Squadron in Korea and a PB Squadron (VP-45) stationed at Coca Solo Naval Air Station in the Panama Canal Zone.
Following his service to his country he returned to Evansville and started a trucking career, ending with Gulf Oil in 1973. After concluding his time with Gulf Oil, he started with Amtrak where he worked as the Shop Foreman in the Beech Grove Maintenance Facility, where he was fondly remembered as a talented welder and well-regarded person before his retirement.
He was a parishioner at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church for over 25 years and belonged to several historical railroad associations. He had a passion for photography and printing.
Survivors include his sons, Tim and Doug Elliott; grandchildren, Patrick (wife Kayli) Elliott, Nathan Elliott, Brandy (husband Jim) Swinford, and Christopher (wife Paula) Smith; and great-grandchildren, Arianna and Addalynn Elliott.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean Elliott and daughter-in-law, Wanda Elliott.
Family and friends will gather from 1pm until 3pm, Sunday, December 9, 2018 in the David A. Hall Mortuary, Pittsboro, where the Vigil Service will be held at 3pm to conclude the time of gathering. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 11 am, Monday, December 10, 2018 in Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Danville, Indiana. Following the Mass, he will be laid to rest in the K of P Cemetery, Lizton, IN.
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested memorial gifts be directed to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Danville Regional Rehabilitation Center for the exceptional care shown to Robert during his stay there.
