Ronald Goodwin, 78 of Lizton, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home, February 27, 2024, his loving family was by his side. The following is a life story written by his loving family.
Ron was born in Indianapolis at the old St. Vincent’s Hospital to John and Iveese Goodwin. He grew up with his older sister, Sharon Goodwin Page. They walked several blocks to school every day most of their time as students.
Ron’s family decided to move from Speedway to a farm in north Pittsboro, Indiana. He graduated high school from Pittsboro in 1962 and went to Purdue University in the fall of 1962.
After a year of college he got a job for the summertime to help pay for college the next year, but he made so much money that summer he decided not to go back to school. He kept working as a laborer on a pipeline crew until he became an operating engineer moving and digging dirt for a living. Through life he owned his own company, and he married the love of his life, Nedra Muston. Together they raised two sons, Mitch and John Goodwin. The family raised cows, pigs, and chickens and kept a garden in the summer. They all lived on a 40-acre farm, just enough to keep life interesting.
When the boys grew up and had families, Ron became a grandpa and loved them all very much. Altogether he had seven grandkids, six boys and one girl. Now he also has three great-grandkids, two boys and one girl.
He retired in 2007 from Local 103 Operating Engineers and moved to a lake house. He moved again to Lizton into a nice ranch home and was content living the retired life.
He loved traveling as a younger man and took several trips across the U.S. to Arizona, California, and Las Vegas, where he had family. He never met a stranger and would try to help people in any way possible. He was a very giving person and tried to live by the golden rules as much as he could.
Ron proudly served his country and was in the United States Army National Guard from 1965 to 1971.
Ron passed on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at his home with family and friends all around him. He will be missed very much by all who loved him.
