Sandy Lutnick Joseph of Indianapolis, Indiana, peacefully passed away on October 4, 2022.

Life Story from the family:

Sandrasue Lutnick Joseph, better known as Sandy, passed away on October 4th, 2022 at the age of 66. She was the beloved daughter of Edward (Skeets) and Estelle (Este) Lutnick and grew up in multiple cities throughout the midwest before her family settled in Grand Blanc, Michigan as a teenager. She was known for her incredible voice and stage talent in her high school’s musicals. She went on to attend Michigan State University, the first in her family to attend college, and earned a double major in Latin American Studies and Social Work. As a young woman she travelled extensively throughout Latin America, falling in love with its language and culture. She saw Mayan ruins in Mexico, taught guitar lessons in Tegucigalpa and visited Angel Falls in Venezuela. Throughout her life, faith was her guiding light, so much so that during this time she considered becoming a nun. She moved to Brazil for a year and lived in a convent where she made many friends, learned Portuguese, accidentally ordered cocô (poop) ice cream, but did not become a nun. She returned to the United States by way of a very long bus ride through South and Central America to “re-learn Spanish”.  Back in Michigan, Sandy enrolled at Mercy College where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in the Physician’s Assistant program, going on to serve her community at the Detroit Department of Health, the Indiana Health Center, Alivio Medical Center, and Shalom Health Care Center. Her devotion to her patients was so great that she would take phone calls from them at any time, day or night, even in the midst of climbing a mountain in Rocky Mountain National Park. Medicine was her true calling and it is fitting that during her early days as a P.A. she met Dr. Robert (Bob) Joseph and fell in love. They had three children together, and over the years opened their home and their hearts to many other children who saw Sandy as a mother. She continued to love travel and adventure, taking multiple medical mission trips to Guatemala, El Salvador and Colombia with her family, going on safari in South Africa, and zip-lining through Zimbabwe. She loved walking her many dogs at Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park, hiking in the woods, and learning bird calls. She was a force constantly in motion, powered by a minimum of three cups of coffee, and yet every morning sat in contemplation and prayer with the works of Thomas Keating, Thich Nhat Hanh, and others (even if it only lasted 5 minutes). She was a beloved member of the Episcopal Church at Christ Church Cathedral.  Her love for God, her family, and her community were unwavering. Sandy had a light in her that radiated happiness. She was known for her sparkling and vivacious personality, her gift for gab, her love of chocolate ice cream, and her devotion to the causes she believed in. She is survived by her husband Bob Joseph, her children Katie Joseph, Aaron Joseph, and Annie Joseph, her foster son Giovanny Fajardo, and her foster grandchildren Aharon Fajardo and Arin Fajardo.

Sandrasue Lutnick Joseph, mejor conocida como Sandy, falleció el 4 de octubre de 2022 a la edad de 66 años. Era la amada hija de Edward (Skeets) y Estelle (Este) Lutnick y creció en varias ciudades en el medio oeste hasta que la familia instaló en Grand Blanc, Michigan cuando era adolescente. Sandy era conocida por su increíble voz y talento escénico en los musicales de su escuela secundaria. Luego asistió a Michigan State University, la primera en su familia en asistir a la universidad, y obtuvo una doble especialización en Estudios Latinoamericanos y Trabajo Social. De joven viajó extensamente por América Latina, enamorándose de la idioma y la cultura. Vio ruinas mayas en México, enseñó lecciones de guitarra en Tegucigalpa y visitó el Salto Ángel en Venezuela. A lo largo de su vida, la fe fue su luz de guía, tanto que durante este tiempo consideró convertirse en monja. Se mudó a Brasil durante un año y vivió en un convento donde hizo muchos amigos, aprendió portugués, accidentalmente pidió un helado de cocô (caca), pero no se hizo monja. Regresó a los Estados Unidos a través de un largo viaje en autobús por América del Sur y Central para “volver a aprender español”. De regreso en Michigan, Sandy se inscribió en Mercy College, donde obtuvo una licenciatura en la programa de asistente médico, y luego sirvió a su comunidad en el Departamento de Salud de Detroit, el Centro de Salud de Indiana, el Centro Médico Alivio y el Centro de Atención Médica Shalom. Tan grande fue la  dedicacíon de Sandy a sus pacientes que recibía sus llamadas telefónicas en cualquier momento, de día o de noche, incluso mientras escalaba una montaña en el Parque Nacional de las Montañas Rocosas. Medicina era su verdadera vocación y es apropiado que durante sus primeros días como asistente médico, conoció al Dr. Robert (Bob) Joseph y se enamoró. Tuvieron tres hijos juntos y, a lo largo de los años, abrieron su hogar y su corazón a muchos otros niños que vieron a Sandy como una madre. Continuó amando los viajes y la aventura, realizó múltiples viajes de misión médica a Guatemala, El Salvador y Colombia con su familia, realizó un safari en Sudáfrica y probó tirolesa en Zimbabue. Le encantaba pasear en el Parque Estatal Fort Benjamin Harrison con sus perros, caminar por el bosque y aprender los cantos de los pájaros. Era una fuerza en constante movimiento, impulsada por un mínimo de tres tazas de café — sin embargo, todas las mañanas se sentaba en contemplación y oración con las obras de Thomas Keating, Thich Nhat Hanh y otros (aunque solo durara 5 minutos). Era una amada miembro de la Iglesia Episcopal en la Catedral de la Iglesia de Cristo. Su amor por Dios, su familia y su comunidad eran inquebrantables. Sandy tenía una luz en ella que irradiaba felicidad. Era conocida por su personalidad chispeante y vivaz, su facilidad de palabra, su amor por el helado de chocolate y su devoción por las causas en las que creía. Le sobreviven su esposo Bob Joseph, sus hijos Katie Joseph, Aaron Joseph y Annie Joseph, su hijo adoptivo Giovanny Fajardo y sus nietos adoptivos Aharon Fajardo y Arin Fajardo.

The Joseph Family is celebrating the life and memory of their beloved mother and wife, Sandy Lutnick Joseph.  The family invites you to join them at Christ Church Cathedral in a celebration of her amazing life on Friday, October 7, 2022, at 1 pm for a viewing followed by a service at 2 pm.
