Wilma English of Pittsboro, Indiana passed away on September 21, 2024. She was a loving and devoted, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the good fortune to know her.
Wilma was born in Paris, Illinois on February 3, 1936 as the first child of Don and Amy Wilhoit. She excelled as a student and graduated from Paris High School. After graduating from high school, Wilma married Thomas Hearn and had three children – Jeff, Jane, and David. Wilma was dedicated to her family always putting her children and grandchildren first and making countless sacrifices for them. Because Wilma would have liked to attend college but was not able to do so, she was very proud that all her children obtained college degrees.
When her children were in school and Wilma became a single mother, she worked in a number of jobs, sometimes more than one at once to support her children. She found her true calling when she went to work at O’Malia’s grocery store in Carmel. She was beloved by her customers. Her favorite part of the job was in the summers when she ran the flower tent. She would have customers come back year after year to buy “Wilma’s flowers.”
At this time Wilma also met and subsequently married John English. They spent many wonderful years together prior toJohn’s death in 1989.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John English, and her grandson, Chris Wallace. Wilma is survived by her children, Jeff Hearn (Sharon), Jane Wallace(Dale), and David Hearn (Lise), her grandchildren, Lindsay Hearn Brustein (Garrett), Alex Hearn (Mohini Tellakat), and Mimi Arlt, and her great-grandchildren, Miller Munro Brustein, Colbie Brustein, and Finnegan Tellakat Hearn.
