NORMA KAY SWISHER, 79, of Coatesville, and formerly of Brownsburg, passed away March 4, 2016 at Brownsburg Health Care Center.

Norma was born April 28, 1936 in Montgomery County to James Donald and Edna Margaret (Hedge) Sering. The family resided on a farm west of Jamestown. The family moved to Brownsburg in 1952. She was a 1954 graduate of Brownsburg High School and a 1958 graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington with a Bachelors of Science degree in elementary education.

Norma married John C. Swisher on March 30, 1959 at Calvary Methodist Church, Brownsburg. At that time, she was an elementary teacher. She was Secretary / Treasurer of Swisher Plumbing, Inc. Norma was also a news reporter for the Hendricks County Guide/Gazette.

Norma was a 50+ member of the Brownsburg Chapter #266 Order of the Easter Star and a past matron, (joined in June 1958), and a dual member at Groveland Chapter #330 O.E.S. She was a 25-year member of Theta Phi Chapter, Phi Beta Psi Sorority, Brownsburg, and served several times as vice-president for membership and recently honored with receiving Life Membership status. Norma also held Life Membership in Delta Alpha Chapter, Phi Mu Fraternity, Indiana University, Bloomington, and also Indiana University Alumni Association. She was active with the Brownsburg Jaycees in the 1970s. Norma was a member of Whitestone Christian Church, New Winchester.

Norma leaves behind her husband of 57 years, John Swisher; sons, Donald Allen (Sherry) Swisher of Cross Hill, SC and Charles Aaron (Linda) Swisher of Rockville; daughters, Diana Kay (Steven) Stuckey of Sheridan, Mary Margaret (James) Moran, St. Joseph, MI; 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; brother, James (Anne) Sering, Brownsburg; sister, Linda Dickson, Los Alamos, NM; step-sister, Beverly Fleenor, Sun City West, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Crystal Brandenburg Sering; and her brother-in-law, Gerald Dickson.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 8 from 9 a.m. to Noon, with the Service to follow at Whitestone Christian Church, 8045 W. US Highway 36, Coatesville, IN. Burial will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens, Whitetown, IN.
